Everything means something to me…..

I can’t seem to part with much.  Although I have gotten better.

If something that I have been given is going to a home that I know  will be treasured, I can let go.

I havn’t lived through a depression, so I don’t know where it comes from.  But everything that has been given to me is special. 

I must be sentimental or something.

how about you?  Are you a keeper or a tosser?

I love taking a day of rest each week, and usually it is either a Saturday or a Sunday depending on which day my husband is not on fire-shift.

But I find myself getting pulled back into busyness, or obligations.  I can think of seasons in the past where I was diligent to protect our day of rest.  The rewards were refreshing.

But here I am untying knots from my busy week and overcrowded mind on the day that I had planned to rest. grrrrr….at myself:-)

Do you take a day of rest each week, or month?  What are your thoughts on a day of rest and how do you stay committed to it?  ( This is not a legalistic question!)

As I sat at my kitchen table this morning, reading and writing, I sipped my french roast coffee (with a touch of creamer, of course) and took a deep breath.

obviously, coffee n- cream refreshes me!

It is still a mystery to me that spending time in the word of God lightens my heart.  I love being reminded of His goodness and grace, and mercies that are new every morning.  It is like air to me.  and water….and sustenance.  There is a restful peace in these simple moments:  I sit at the piano and sing a new song.  I write a friend a hand-written card, and SEND IT!  I pull my girls onto my lap…even though they are almost taller than me!….I sit with Sean and share a cup of coffee….fresh flowers from my garden, a good book…..

What refreshes you, my friend?

I was planting a tomato plant in the same spot I planted last year and, no joking, I have hundreds of plants coming up in the same spot as last year!!

HUNDREDS!  Ok, so I didn’t count them, but there has to be at least that many!:roll:

I love seeds, and seeing God in the law of multiplication!

Ok, since it is Friday, I thought I would “lighten things up” a bit.

keep it pretty brainless, actually….

So, do you know what today is?

It’s National Doughnut Day people!!!  Have you ever heard of such a thing?!

I’m not a huge doughnut fan myself, but if I HAVE to choose one, then it is the maple bar.  BUT, I only eat the top off of it!:-)

What is your favorite pick, and how do you eat yours?

Sean and I were on our walk this morning and for what ever reason, I was noticing all sorts of funny mailboxes.   So,  I said to Sean, “what does your mail box say about you?”  The commentary was hilarious as we were walking.

There was one small row of fairly plain metal mail boxes, and then about 2 feet away, a shiny black one with red hot fire flames.  It was  positioned on a BRIGHT shiny yellow post.  Others were broken down, one had booger green sponge-painted flowers with red  hand-painted numbers on the front……someone who is seriously color challenged.   We thought the John Deere mail box, painted  bright green from top to bottom standing all on it’s own (again 2 feet from a row of plain boxes) is the rugged individulalist that is saying, “Look at me!”

 As for us, we have the a plain old mailbox that sits in a row of about 8 other plain old mail boxes.   The only thing that sets us apart is the numbers on the boxes.  I wonder if I were to spruce mine up, what would happen?  OR maybe I should take mine out of the row of 8 and set it all on it’s own.  I might start a neighborhood rival!  Let’s raise the bar people!  

What does your mailbox say about you?

Questions arise amoung blogging friends:  To blog or not blog.  It is time consuming, and can be addicting.  Some are looking for the comment bar to rise steadily as the day progresses.  Others are stressed by too many comments and the lack of time to respond personally to each one.  I personally have a fear of offending or boring others, or embarrassing myself with a lack of blogging etiquette!

Blogging definately has it’s place.  This is  my second go around with blogging.  Last year I started one, posted on it one time, and then got busy.  Of course, it was a lengthy post and a bit intense.  Though I did get great response, I feared the upkeep.

I started up again last week.  Something draws me back to it.  I desire to cultivate thoughtful conversations amoung those close to me.  It is a way to be in touch daily.  I have made a decision to not “think” so much, or have it all perfect before I publish.  I am writing about the simple, ordinary, and often times random happenings in my daily life.
